The XRF technique has been widely used for the bulk chemical analysis of meteorites since the late 1960's.  It is a portable, precise, easy to use, instrument which is non destructive and less expensive in meteorite analysis.  Studies have validated that XRF technology is a valuable tool for meteoritics allowing the rapid non destructive  identification of the extraterrestrial origin of metallic objects.
